Julie Kavner

Julie Deborah Kavner is an American actress born on September 7, 1950, in Los Angeles, California. She is widely celebrated for her distinctive "honeyed gravel voice" and is best known for her long-running role as the voice of Marge Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons, a role for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992. She also voices several other characters on the show, including Marge's sisters, Patty and Selma Bouvier. Prior to her iconic voice work, Kavner gained significant recognition for her first professional acting role as Brenda Morgenstern, the younger sister of the title character in the sitcom Rhoda (1974–1978), which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1978. Following Rhoda, she appeared on The Tracey Ullman Show starting in 1987, where the animated shorts that spun off into The Simpsons originated. Kavner is also known for her live-action film roles, having appeared in several films written by Woody Allen, such as Hannah and Her Sisters and Radio Days, and she starred in her first leading feature film role in This Is My Life in 1992. Described as being "nearly reclusive," Kavner is known for keeping her private life out of the public eye and has a long-term professional history with partner David Davis.
