Justin Chatwin
Justin Chatwin is a versatile Canadian actor who has successfully navigated a wide range of roles from blockbuster science fiction to intimate independent dramas. Born on October 31, 1982, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, he is the son of an artist and an engineer. He initially studied commerce at the University of British Columbia but shifted his focus to acting after being dared by a friend to audition for a television show. His breakthrough came in 2005 when he starred as Robbie Ferrier, the son of Tom Cruise’s character, in Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds. Following this high-profile role, he led the supernatural thriller The Invisible (2007) and took on the iconic role of Goku in Dragonball Evolution (2009). On television, he is widely recognized for his portrayal of the charismatic Jimmy Lishman (also known as Steve) on the Showtime series Shameless, as well as lead roles in CBS's American Gothic and Netflix’s sci-fi series Another Life. In early 2026, Chatwin appeared in the psychological thriller Sleepwalker as Michael Anders, the abusive husband of the protagonist, Sarah (Hayden Panettiere). In the film, Michael is left in a comatose state following a tragic car accident, yet he remains a constant, looming presence in Sarah's life as a "demonic entity" that haunts her violent sleepwalking episodes. This role allowed Chatwin to explore a darker, more antagonistic performance, serving as a primary source of the psychological tension that drives the narrative. Outside of his film and television career, Chatwin is an avid motorcycle enthusiast and traveler; his passion for extreme sports and long-distance riding was documented in the series No Good Reason, which he also executive produced.
