Karan Johar
Karan Johar is one of the most powerful and influential figures in modern Hindi cinema, wearing multiple hats as a director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and television personality (informally known as 'KJo'). Born on May 25, 1972, to film producer Yash Johar (founder of Dharma Productions) and Hiroo Johar, he inherited and successfully expanded the Dharma Productions banner into a major film studio. He began his career as an assistant director and actor in the blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) before making his sensational directorial debut with the romantic comedy-drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. His subsequent directorial ventures, including the family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), My Name Is Khan (2010), and the most recent Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), have been major commercial successes both domestically and internationally. He is also famous for hosting the iconic celebrity talk show Koffee with Karan and for launching the careers of many successful actors, often facing the "nepotism" debate. For his immense contributions to the arts, he was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2020. His most recent prominent production is the film Homebound (2025), which was India's official entry for the 98th Oscar Awards.
