Karan Soni is an Indian-American actor and comedian renowned for his versatile performances in both live-action and animated films. Born on January 8, 1989, in New Delhi, India, Soni moved to the United States at 18 to study at the University of Southern California. He initially pursued a business degree before transitioning to acting at the USC School of Dramatic Arts. Soni's breakout role came in 2016 when he portrayed Dopinder, a lovable taxi driver, in Deadpool. He reprised this role in Deadpool 2 (2018) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). His other notable film credits include Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016), Office Christmas Party (2016), Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019), and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), where he voiced Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man India. On television, Soni has appeared in series such as Betas (2013), Other Space (2015), Blunt Talk (2015–2016), Miracle Workers (2019–2023), and Big Mouth (2020) . He also lent his voice to animated films like Trolls World Tour (2020) and Strange World (2022). In 2021, Soni co-wrote, starred in, and produced the romantic comedy 7 Days, which won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Ensemble Performance. Soni is openly gay and married to writer-director Roshan Sethi, with whom he developed the film 7 Days. In 2024, Soni starred in A Nice Indian Boy, a romantic comedy about an Indian-American doctor navigating family expectations and his relationship with his fiancé, Jay. The film, directed by Roshan Sethi, premiered at South by Southwest and was released in theaters in April 2025.
