Kasia Smutniak

Kasia Smutniak is a Polish-Italian actress and former model, born Katarzyna Anna Smutniak on August 13, 1979, in Piła, Poland. The daughter of a Polish Air Force Brigadier General, she developed a passion for flying, obtaining her glider pilot's license at the age of 16. Smutniak began her career as a model before making her cinematic debut in 2000. She speaks Polish, Russian, English, and Italian fluently. Her acting career flourished in Italy, leading to significant acclaim and awards, including the Italian Golden Globe for New Star of the Year and her first Silver Ribbon for the film In Your Hands (2007). She has starred in numerous notable films, such as Quiet Chaos (2008), the international thriller From Paris with Love (2010), the immensely popular Perfect Strangers (2016), and the Paolo Sorrentino feature Loro (2018), for which she won a Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actress. On television, she is recognized for playing the title role of Livia Drusilla in the historical series Domina. In her personal life, she has a daughter, Sophie (born 2004), with her former partner, Italian actor Pietro Taricone, who died in an accident in 2010. She later married Italian film producer Domenico Procacci in 2019, and they have a son, Leone (born 2014). Additionally, Smutniak directed the documentary film Walls and, in 2011, co-founded the Pietro Taricone Foundation, which built and runs the Solar Ghami School in Mustang, Nepal.
