Kate Beecroft

Kate Beecroft

Kate Beecroft is an American writer, director, and producer who has gained recognition for her work in the independent film world. A native of Los Angeles, she studied at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where her background in acting instilled in her a deep respect for those she works with on camera.Beecroft's filmmaking is distinguished by her unique approach to casting, often working with non-professional actors and "street-casting" to find compelling and authentic faces and souls. This is exemplified in her feature directorial debut, East of Wall (2025), which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The film, which she also wrote, is a hybrid of documentary and narrative filmmaking, starring a real-life family from South Dakota playing fictionalized versions of themselves. The film's authentic feel, due in large part to her embedded approach to filmmaking, earned her the Audience Award at Sundance and a spot on IndieWire's list of "Sundance 2025 breakouts." She was also the recipient of the Adrienne Shelley Excellence in Filmmaking Award. Her other credits include the short film 1/4 Cup (2020), which she also wrote and directed.
