Born Kathryn Ann Sackhoff on April 8, 1980, in Portland, Oregon, she initially pursued competitive swimming until a knee injury led her to acting. Her career began with the Lifetime movie Fifteen and Pregnant (1998), which motivated her to move to Hollywood.Sackhoff gained significant recognition for her role as Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the critically acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel series Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), for which she won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2005 and was nominated for several others.
