Born on March 3, 1980, in Westminster, London, Katherine Waterston is a celebrated British-American actress known for her quiet intensity and ability to transition between intimate indie dramas and major studio franchises. As the daughter of Oscar-nominated actor Sam Waterston, she was raised in Connecticut and later trained at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and the Stella Adler Studio. Waterston spent over a decade building a reputation on the New York stage and in supporting film roles before her breakout performance as Shasta Fay Hepworth in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice (2014). This role propelled her into the spotlight, leading to major roles as Tina Goldstein in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Janet "Danny" Daniels in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, and Chrisann Brennan in Steve Jobs. Throughout her career, she has remained a favorite of auteur directors, delivering acclaimed performances in projects like The World to Come (2020), for which she won Best Actress at the Stockholm International Film Festival, and the HBO series Perry Mason.
