Keith David Williams, widely known as Keith David, is an American actor, voice actor, comedian, and singer, born on June 4, 1956, in Harlem, New York City, and raised in Corona, Queens. He first decided to pursue acting after playing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz. He attended Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts and graduated from the Juilliard School's Drama Division with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1979.David began his career on stage, performing in productions like A Midsummer Night's Dream and earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role in Jelly's Last Jam. His extensive film career includes roles in the highly-acclaimed films The Thing (1982) as Childs and Platoon (1986) as King, as well as They Live (1988), Dead Presidents (1995), There's Something About Mary (1998), Requiem for a Dream (2000), Crash (2004) as Lieutenant Dixon, and The Fabelmans (2022). On television, he starred as Bishop James Greenleaf in the drama series Greenleaf (2016-2020) and appeared as Elroy Patashnik in the sixth season of the sitcom Community.Keith David is also highly recognized for his prolific voice acting career, which has earned him three Emmy Awards for his narration work on Ken Burns' documentaries, including The War and Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson. His notable voice roles include Goliath on the animated series Gargoyles, the title character in Spawn, Dr. Facilier in Disney's The Princess and the Frog, the Cat in Coraline, and the Arbiter in the Halo video game series.
