Allen Kelsey Grammer, born on February 21, 1955, in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, is an American actor, comedian, producer, and voice artist, widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of the psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane. He first brought the character to life in the highly successful NBC sitcom Cheers (1984–1993), and then reprised the role in its equally popular spin-off, Frasier (1993–2004), which he also executive produced and directed numerous episodes of. This role made him a household name and earned him a remarkable five Emmy Awards, including four for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Frasier, and two Golden Globe Awards. Grammer's distinctive voice is also famously known for lending itself to the diabolical Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons (1990–present), for which he also won an Emmy. Beyond his sitcom successes, Grammer has a prolific career in film, including roles in Anastasia (1997), Toy Story 2 (1999), Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014), and more recently, Like Father (2018) and the upcoming Wish You Were Here (2025). He also had a Golden Globe-winning dramatic turn in the Starz series Boss (2011–2012). A trained stage actor, Grammer honed his craft at the Juilliard School and has appeared in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. His personal life has been marked by significant family tragedies, which he has publicly discussed.
