Kim Byung-woo (born 1980) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter recognized for his high-concept, tension-driven storytelling. An alumnus of Hanyang University, where he majored in Theater and Film, he began his career with inventive, self-funded projects. He made his feature debut in 2003 with Anamorphic, followed by the independent hit Written (2007), which earned him the New Talent Award at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. His mainstream breakthrough came in 2013 with the thriller The Terror Live, starring Ha Jung-woo; the film was a critical and commercial success, earning Kim the Best New Director award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Busan Film Critics Awards. Throughout the following years, Kim solidified his reputation for "muscular" direction and claustrophobic set pieces, reuniting with Ha Jung-woo for the action thriller Take Point (2018). In 2025, he expanded his filmography into larger-scale genre pieces, directing the adaptation Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy and the sci-fi disaster film The Great Flood. On a personal note, Kim married actress and singer Ham Eun-jung on November 30, 2025, in a private ceremony attended by family and close colleagues.
