Her portrayal of a Tamil housewife during communal riots earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress and widespread critical acclaim. She continued to build a diverse filmography with roles in Page 3 (2005), Wake Up Sid (2009), A Death in the Gunj (2017), and Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), among others. Beyond her acting career, Konkona is recognized as a feminist voice in Indian cinema, advocating for gender equality and portraying strong, complex female characters.
