Krista Stadler

Krista Stadler is a highly esteemed Austrian actress with a career spanning over six decades in European theater, film, and television. Born on August 15, 1942, in Vienna, she is perhaps best known to English-speaking audiences for her standout role as "Omi" Engel in the 2015 horror-comedy Krampus. In the film, she plays the wise, German-speaking grandmother whose childhood encounter with the Christmas demon serves as the emotional and mythological backbone of the story. Stadler's performance was widely praised for providing a grounded, haunting gravitas to the film's supernatural premise. Beyond her work in Hollywood, Stadler is a veteran of the Austrian and German screens. She began her career in the early 1960s and achieved significant critical acclaim for her role in the 1979 film Lena Rais, for which she won the German Film Award for Best Actress. She has been a fixture at the prestigious Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna since 1972 and has appeared in over 100 productions, including popular European series like Tatort, Kommissar Rex, and the 2016 historical drama Fly Away Home (Maikäfer flieg). In 2018, she was honored with the Golden Medal of Merit of the State of Vienna for her contributions to the arts.
