Dame Kristin Ann Scott Thomas DBE is a British actress who has had a distinguished career in both English and French cinema. Born on May 24, 1960, in Redruth, Cornwall, she became fluent in French after moving to Paris at age 19 to study acting. She is known for her work in films such as the 1994 romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral, for which she won a BAFTA Award, and the 1996 epic romance The English Patient, for which she received an Academy Award nomination.Her filmography includes a wide range of roles in both Hollywood productions and independent cinema, with credits including Mission: Impossible, Gosford Park, and Darkest Hour. She is also known for her extensive stage work, which earned her an Olivier Award for a revival of The Seagull. In 2015, she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to drama. In 2023, she made her directorial and screenwriting debut with the film My Mother's Wedding, a comedic drama inspired by her own life experiences. She was married to François Olivennes from 1987 to 2005, with whom she has three children. She is also the older sister of actress Serena Scott Thomas.
