Kristoffer Borgli
Kristoffer Borgli (born 1985) is a visionary Norwegian filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor who has rapidly become a central figure in contemporary "nightmare comedy." Born in Oslo and raised in a suburb where he spent his youth skateboarding and making videos, Borgli initially built his reputation through a prolific output of award-winning music videos, commercials, and experimental short films like Whateverest (2012). He first gained international attention with his debut feature, DRIB (2017), a meta-documentary/fiction hybrid that satirized the advertising industry. However, his major critical breakthrough came with the 2022 dark comedy Sick of Myself (Syk pike), which premiered at Cannes and earned him widespread acclaim for its biting, body-horror-tinged exploration of narcissism and the attention economy. Following his move to Los Angeles, Borgli transitioned to English-language cinema with the surreal A24 hit Dream Scenario (2023), starring Nicolas Cage. The film cemented his signature style: blending high-concept, "unhinged" premises with meticulous social satire and deeply uncomfortable psychological realism. Now firmly established as an A24 staple, Borgli is currently in post-production for his most star-studded project to date, The Drama (2026), featuring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
