Lake Bell

Lake Siegel Bell is an American actress, director, and screenwriter born on March 24, 1979, in New York City. Raised in a "comically dysfunctional" family, she attended the Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance in London, where she developed a deep interest in the nuances of voice and performance. Her career took off in the early 2000s with roles in the legal dramas The Practice and its spin-off Boston Legal, where she played the sharp-witted Sally Heep. She further cemented her place in television as the narcissistic Dr. Cat Black in the long-running satirical series Childrens Hospital and more recently co-created and starred in the ABC sitcom Bless This Mess. In film, she is recognized for her roles in What Happens in Vegas, It's Complicated, and as the female lead in the thriller No Escape. Beyond acting, Bell has established herself as a formidable filmmaker, specifically exploring her fascination with vocal fry and accents. She made her feature directorial debut with the critically acclaimed In a World... (2013), a project she also wrote and starred in, which won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Her voice acting career is equally prolific; she is well-known as the voice of the dryly humorous cat Chloe in The Secret Life of Pets franchise and portrays Poison Ivy in the adult animated series Harley Quinn. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she has provided the voice for Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the series What If...? and appeared in live-action as Dr. Aneka in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. By late 2025, Bell has continued to expand her creative footprint, starring in the HBO comedy series The Chair Company and releasing a children's book titled All About Brains, inspired by her daughter’s journey with epilepsy. In her personal life, Bell was married to tattoo artist Scott Campbell from 2013 to 2020; they share two children, Nova and Ozgood.
