Lau Kong (劉江), born on August 24, 1946, in British Hong Kong, is a highly respected veteran Hong Kong actor known for his extensive career in television and film. He began acting in 1976 with Commercial Television, later moving to Rediffusion Television (RTV, now ATV) in 1979. However, he is most recognized for his remarkable 38-year tenure with TVB, which he joined in 1982. During his time at TVB, he starred in over 300 dramas, often portraying patriarchal figures, and became a familiar face to generations of viewers, with many popular TVB actors and actresses having played his "son" or "daughter" on screen. He left TVB in 2020.Throughout his prolific career, Lau Kong has showcased immense versatility across various genres. His filmography includes iconic Hong Kong films such as Last Hurrah for Chivalry (1979), City on Fire (1987), John Woo's Hard Boiled (1992) where he played a hospital director, Green Snake (1993), Beast Stalker (2008), and The Stool Pigeon (2010). More recently, he appeared as Uncle Ma in Donnie Yen's 2024 action-thriller The Prosecutor, and is also listed for the 2025 TV series Golden Oldies. Lau Kong is celebrated for his deep immersion in his roles and his ability to add gravitas and nuance to his characters, earning him a Professional Actor Award at the TVB Anniversary Awards in 2013 and a continued reputation as a stalwart of Hong Kong cinema and television.
