Laura Cerón is an Alma Award-winning Mexican-American actress, widely recognized for her extensive work in television and film, as well as her strong background in theatre. Born on September 28, 1964, in Mexico City, Mexico, she moved to Elgin, Illinois, at the age of 10. Her passion for acting blossomed in junior high, leading her to join the Latino Chicago Theater Company after high school. She quickly became one of their leading actresses, performing in numerous plays and contributing to their unique "Cartooning" theatrical style, which blended Commedia dell'arte with Carpero theatre.Cerón's breakthrough role came with the long-running NBC medical drama ER, where she played Nurse Chuny Marquez from 1995 until the series finale in 2009. She was one of only six actors to appear in every season of the critically acclaimed show. Prior to ER, she had a recurring role as Anita Marrón in the ABC drama Missing Persons (1993–1994).Her television career also includes guest appearances on popular shows such as Major Crimes, Saving Grace, CSI: Miami, The Unit, Judging Amy, Touched by an Angel, Shameless, The Big Bang Theory, Station 19, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and Firefly Lane.In film, Cerón's credits include The Public Eye (1992), Losing Isaiah (1995), Criminal (2004), Rails & Ties (2007), The Perfect Family (2011), and the recently released comedy-drama Scrambled (2024), where she plays Sonja 'Mom'. She also appeared in Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009) and Letters to Santa (2023).
