Laura Vandervoort

Born on September 22, 1984, in Toronto, Ontario, Laura Vandervoort is a celebrated Canadian actress and producer who has built an extensive career across science fiction, horror, and superhero genres. She began her professional journey at age 13, appearing in classic Canadian series like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? while simultaneously excelling in athletics—notably earning a second-degree black belt in karate. Vandervoort gained significant early recognition as Sadie Harrison in the teen drama Instant Star, but her breakout on the international stage came when she was cast as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) in the hit series Smallville. This was followed by leading roles as Lisa in the ABC sci-fi reboot V and as Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf, in the series Bitten. In the Saw franchise, Vandervoort starred as Anna in Jigsaw (2017), the most experienced and tactical member of the barn game. Her character was a woman haunted by a dark secret: she had killed her own infant and framed her husband for the crime, leading to his suicide. Anna survived nearly every trap in the barn, only to be killed in the final test when she attempted to shoot fellow survivor Ryan with a "backwards" shotgun that fired from the rear, fulfilling Jigsaw's final lesson about the dangers of taking the "easy way out." Beyond this role, she has continued to be a prominent figure in the genre world, starring in the 2019 remake of Rabid and appearing as Mila Dubov in the Netflix series V-Wars. As of 2024 and 2025, Vandervoort has successfully expanded her career behind the camera as a producer and director, while continuing to act in high-profile projects like the NBC medical drama Brilliant Minds. In her personal life, she celebrated a major milestone by marrying Adam Coates on September 6, 2025. She remains a beloved fixture at international fan conventions and continues to develop multiple projects through her own production endeavors, including the award-winning short film My Soul to Take.
