Lawrence Gordon is an acclaimed American film producer and motion picture executive, born on March 25, 1936, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. A graduate of Tulane University, his prolific career in the entertainment industry spans over four decades. He began his career in the early 1960s working for Aaron Spelling before moving up the executive ranks at ABC and Screen Gems, and later served as the head of worldwide production for American International Pictures (AIP). In 1974, he formed his own production company, which led to a highly successful partnership with director Walter Hill. Gordon is renowned for specializing in action-oriented and genre films, with an impressive filmography that includes box office hits and critically praised movies such as 48 Hrs. (1982), Predator (1987), the original Die Hard (1988) and its sequel Die Hard 2 (1990), Point Break (1991), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), and Hellboy (2004). He also ventured into drama, producing the Academy Award-nominated Field of Dreams (1989), and later produced the critically acclaimed Boogie Nights (1997) and Watchmen (2009). Gordon also held a significant executive role as the President of 20th Century Fox between 1984 and 1986 and founded the production company Largo Entertainment. He continues to be an active producer and motion picture executive, with his work often resulting in the creation of enduring film franchises.
