Before pursuing a career in entertainment, she earned a bachelor's degree in Child and Adolescent Development and worked as a kindergarten teacher and an embalmer.Tran's career began in modeling, and she quickly gained recognition as a top Asian female model. She then transitioned into acting, making her television debut as a guest host on MTV's Guy Code. Her acting credits include roles in the Fast & Furious franchise, The First Purge, The Haunting of Hill House, and a main cast role as Desiree "Desi" Nguyen on the CBS series MacGyver. She is also known for her work in the film Expend4bles and a guest appearance on the television show S.W.A.T..
