Born on May 14, 1985, in Miami, Florida, Lina Esco is an American actress, director, producer, and prominent activist. She began her professional journey as a model in France before transitioning to acting at the age of 15. Esco gained early television recognition in 2007 for her role as Katie Vega in the CBS drama Cane and made guest appearances on series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Drop Dead Diva. Her film career includes roles in the 2005 drama London, the 2010 indie film Kingshighway, and the 2012 comedy LOL alongside Miley Cyrus. Beyond her work in front of the camera, Esco is widely known as the founder of the Free the Nipple movement. In 2012, she wrote, directed, and starred in a film of the same name to challenge gender-based censorship and promote equality, a project that eventually sparked a global social media phenomenon supported by numerous high-profile celebrities. In recent years, Esco achieved significant mainstream success starring as Christina "Chris" Alonso on the CBS action drama S.W.A.T., a role she held for five seasons from 2017 to 2022. During her tenure on the show, she also made her television directorial debut. Outside of her scripted work, Esco has been a dedicated advocate for environmental causes, notably producing public service announcements for the Academy Award-winning documentary The Cove to raise awareness about dolphin captivity and hunting.
