Lisa Irene Chappell (born 18 October 1968 in Takapuna, Auckland) is a New Zealand actress, singer and playwright widely celebrated for her dynamic and versatile career in television, film, theatre and music. She first gained fame portraying the spoiled yet captivating Chelsea Redfern on Gloss (1987–1990), before achieving enduring stardom as Claire McLeod on the Australian drama McLeod’s Daughters (2001–2003), a role that earned her two Logie Awards—for Most Popular New Female Talent (2002) and Most Popular Actress (2004). On stage, she debuted with The Merchant of Venice in 1991 and has since performed in works ranging from Hamlet to contemporary plays, often writing and producing through her own company. Chappell’s film roles include Desperate Remedies (1993), Jack Brown Genius (1996) and Coffin Rock (2009), while her television credits span City Life, The Cult (winning a Qantas TV Award in 2010), Shortland Street, My Life Is Murder and most recently Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires. A singer-songwriter at heart, she released her debut album When Then Is Now in 2006, further showcasing her multi‑talented artist.
