Lucy Boynton

Lucy Boynton is an accomplished American-born English actress, born on January 17, 1994, in New York City. The younger of two daughters, her parents, Graham Boynton and Adrianne Pielou, are both distinguished English journalists and travel writers. Her father, Graham, also has a background as a political reporter who covered the Rhodesian war and apartheid era in southern Africa before being deported to Britain. The family moved back to London when Lucy was four, and she was raised in southeast London, attending Blackheath High School and James Allen's Girls' School. She discovered her passion for acting at the age of ten, inspired by a drama teacher who taught her that acting was about understanding human psychology.Boynton's professional acting career began at the age of 12, when she made her debut as the young Beatrix Potter in the biographical film Miss Potter (2006), a role for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination. She continued to build her resume with notable early television appearances, including Posy Fossil in the BBC film Ballet Shoes (2007) and Margaret Dashwood in the BBC miniseries Sense and Sensibility (2008).Her career gained significant momentum with roles in a variety of films and television series. She starred as the mysterious model Raphina in the acclaimed musical comedy-drama Sing Street (2016), and as Countess Helena Andrenyi in Kenneth Branagh's star-studded adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express (2017). However, it was her portrayal of Mary Austin, Freddie Mercury's lifelong partner, in the blockbuster biopic Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), that brought her widespread international recognition and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination as part of the ensemble cast.More recently, Boynton has taken on roles such as the privileged antagonist Astrid Sloan in the Netflix series The Politician (2019–2020), Dr. Evelyn Bartlett in "The Greatest Hits" (2024), and Ruth Ellis in the upcoming ITV drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story (2025). Her diverse filmography also includes The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015), Apostle (2018), Locked Down (2021), The Pale Blue Eye (2022), and a cameo as Proust Barbie in Barbie (2023).
