José Luis Castro Zahera, known professionally as Luis Zahera, is a Spanish actor from Galicia, born on May 23, 1966, in Santiago de Compostela. He is widely recognized for his numerous performances in supporting roles across Galician and Spanish film and television. Zahera gained early public recognition in his native region for playing the character of Petróleo in the series Mareas vivas (1998-2002). His feature film debut was in José Luis García Sánchez's Divinas palabras (1987). After an early period in his career, he even worked abroad, including as a painter, construction laborer, and coat check employee in New York, and did demolition work at the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in the early 1990s. His later career boasts numerous successful projects, including television roles such as El Pertur in Sin tetas no hay paraıˊso (2008) and Ezequiel in Entrevıˊas (Wrong Side of the Tracks) (2022-present), as well as acclaimed film roles like Releches in Celda 211 (Cell 211) (2009) and the roles that earned him the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor: Cabrera in El reino (The Realm) (2018) and Xan in As bestas (The Beasts) (2022).
