Maggie Kang is a South Korean–Canadian filmmaker and director at Sony Pictures Animation, best known for co-directing and co-writing K‑Pop Demon Hunters, which premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025. Born in Seoul and raised in Toronto, she studied classical animation at Sheridan College before beginning her career at DreamWorks Animation—where she contributed as a story artist to films like Puss in Boots, Rise of the Guardians, Kung Fu Panda 3, Trolls, and Over the Hedge. She later held similar roles at Illumination (Minions: The Rise of Gru) and Warner Animation Group (The LEGO Ninjago Movie as Head of Story). K‑Pop Demon Hunters originated from her own concept, inspired by Korean folklore and her love for K-pop—a “love letter to K‑pop and my Korean roots”—and marks her feature directorial debut, co-captained alongside Chris Appelhans.
