Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (born December 29, 2001, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian actress of Sri Lankan Tamil descent who rose to prominence as Devi Vishwakumar in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever (2020–2023). She was selected by Mindy Kaling from over 15,000 auditionees, making her professional acting debut at just 17 years old . The series earned her widespread critical acclaim, nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards, Canadian Screen Awards, and MTV Movie & TV Awards, and recognition from Time and A.O. Scott as a breakout performer. After relocating to Los Angeles and deferring enrollment at York University, she reprised her voice‑acting chops—voicing Priya Mangal in Pixar’s Turning Red (2022) and bringing Zipp Storm to life in the My Little Pony: Make Your Mark franchise (2022–2024). In 2025, Ramakrishnan made her live‑action film debut with the comedy-drama Slanted, which premiered at SXSW and earned positive reviews for her "scene‑stealing" role as Brindha. Off-screen, she is an advocate for girls’ education and gender equality, serving as a global ambassador for Plan International Canada, and promotes authentic representation, drawing on her own experiences as a Tamil-Canadian and daughter of Sri Lankan refugees. With major upcoming roles—such as in Freakier Friday (2025) and Netflix’s The Netherfield Girls—Maitreyi continues to expand her range and remain a prominent voice for diversity in entertainment.
