Mandela Van Peebles

Born on June 4, 1994, in Los Angeles, California, Mandela Van Peebles is an American actor, producer, and writer who carries on the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most prominent filmmaking dynasties. He is the son of director and actor Mario Van Peebles and the grandson of the legendary filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles, who is often credited with pioneering the Blaxploitation genre. Named after Nelson Mandela, he began his career as a child with a debut in the 1999 film Judgment Day, later appearing in his father’s biopic Baadasssss! (2003). He gained significant recognition for his role as Hendrix in the coming-of-age film We the Party (2012) and for his powerful performance as Noah in the 2016 remake of the historic miniseries Roots. In the Saw franchise, Van Peebles played the role of Mitch in Jigsaw (2017), a young man trapped in the barn game who is eventually killed in the "Cycle Trap" for his role in the death of John Kramer's nephew. Beyond horror, he has showcased his versatility in projects like the war drama USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016) and as a series regular in the supernatural dramedy Reginald the Vampire (2022–2024), where he portrayed Maurice Miller. In 2024 and 2025, he continued to expand his filmography with a lead role in the Western Outlaw Posse and made appearances in the hit series Mayor of Kingstown.
