Marcio Reolon
Marcio Reolon (born November 16, 1984, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) is a Brazilian filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and actor renowned for his collaborative work with Filipe Matzembacher. A cinema graduate from PUC‑RS, he emerged on the international scene with his debut feature Seashore (Beira‑Mar) in 2015, which premiered at the Berlinale Forum and earned top honors at Rio IFF (“Novos Rumos” and a special jury prize). His breakthrough came in 2018 with Hard Paint (Tinta Bruta), a poignant queer drama that premiered in Berlin’s Panorama section and won both the Teddy Award and CICAE Panorama Jury Prize, very likely marking “one of the best films of the decade” after a run at over 100 festivals and 30+ awards. In 2025, he returned to Berlinale with Night Stage (Ato Noturno), an erotic thriller co-directed with Matzembacher and screened in Panorama—nominated for the Teddy Award—and later selected as the closing film of BFI Flare. Beyond directing, Reolon has acted in several films and shorts, founded Avante Filmes, co-curated LGBTQ+ festivals, and serves as an educator and juror at international platforms. His work is celebrated for merging rich visual aesthetics with themes of sexuality, identity, and performativity, often set in his native Porto Alegre, which he treats as a dynamic character in his storytelling .
