Marco Beltrami is an American composer and conductor renowned for his extensive work in film and television scores. Born on October 7, 1966, on Long Island, New York, his family emigrated from Italy. He began piano lessons at age six, often preferring to rewrite pieces rather than simply practicing them. While a teenager, he played keyboards in rock bands. He initially pursued urban planning at Brown University, but his interest in music led him to experiment with electronic music. After graduating from Brown, Beltrami studied in Venice, Italy, with avant-garde composer Luigi Nono, then earned a Master's Degree in Twentieth Century Music at the Yale School of Music. He later moved to Los Angeles to study under acclaimed composer Jerry Goldsmith.Beltrami's prolific career, spanning over 30 years, has encompassed various genres including horror, action, science fiction, Western, and superhero films. He gained early recognition for his non-traditional horror scores, particularly for the Scream franchise, establishing himself as a sought-after composer in the genre. His filmography includes notable scores for Mimic, The Faculty, Resident Evil, Blade II, Hellboy, I, Robot, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Live Free or Die Hard, World War Z, Snowpiercer, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan, and A Quiet Place.His contributions to film music have garnered significant accolades, including two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score for 3:10 to Yuma (2007) and The Hurt Locker (2008), and a Golden Globe nomination for A Quiet Place (2018). He also won a Satellite Award for Soul Surfer (2011) and an Emmy Award for Free Solo (2018).
