Marco Calvani
Marco Calvani is an Italian playwright, filmmaker, director, and actor who has built a prolific international career across Europe and the United States. Born on December 11, 1980, in Prato, Tuscany, Calvani began his artistic training as a teenager and made his debut as a playwright in 2002 with the play Quasi. He gained significant European acclaim with his work Strong Hands (Le mani forti) and has since received commissions from prestigious institutions such as the Phoenix Theatre in London, Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, and La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York. Calvani is the founder and artistic director of Mixò, an international cultural center designed to promote original works for stage and screen. In addition to his stage career, he is an official translator of works by contemporary playwrights like Theresa Rebeck and Bernard-Marie Koltès and is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Actors Studio. In recent years, Calvani has successfully transitioned into film and television, making his feature directorial debut with the critically acclaimed 2024 film High Tide, which stars Marisa Tomei and his husband, Brazilian actor Marco Pigossi. The film, which premiered at SXSW, explores themes of immigration and identity, drawing on Calvani's own experiences as an immigrant and a gay man. In 2025, he achieved wider mainstream recognition for his acting role as Claude in the Netflix comedy series The Four Seasons, created by Tina Fey and starring Steve Carell and Colman Domingo. Following this breakout performance, he was cast in the 2026 romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany (formerly Italianna), joining a cast that includes Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page. Scheduled for release on April 10, 2026, the film features Calvani in a supporting role as the production returns to his native Italy for filming along the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany.
