Mark Chao
Mark Chao (Chinese: 趙又廷; born September 25, 1984) is a prominent Taiwanese-Canadian actor. He is the son of veteran actor and television host Allen Chao. After graduating from the University of Victoria in Canada with a double degree in sociology and economics, he embarked on his acting career in the Taiwanese entertainment industry.Chao made his breakthrough in 2009 with the television series Black & White, where his portrayal of a rash, righteous cop earned him the Golden Bell Award for Best Actor. This success propelled him into film, starting with Monga (2010), for which he won the Best Newcomer award at the Asian Film Awards. He then transitioned to the Chinese market, gaining further recognition in films like Chen Kaige's Caught in the Web (2012), Zhao Wei's directorial debut So Young (2013), and Tsui Hark's Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon (2013). His role as Ye Hua in the 2017 fantasy romance drama Eternal Love led to an explosive rise in popularity and a surge in film offers, solidifying his status as a major star. More recently, he appeared in films such as The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity (2020), Her Story (2024), and is set to appear in Resurrection (2025). Mark Chao married Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan in 2014, after they met on the set of Caught in the Web, and they welcomed their daughter, Rhea Chao, in June 2019.
