Martha Plimpton is an American actress, singer, and activist, born on November 16, 1970, in New York City. She hails from a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry; her father is actor Keith Carradine, and her mother is actress Shelley Plimpton. Plimpton began her acting career at a young age, making her film debut at 10 in Rollover (1981). She gained prominence with her role as Stef in Steven Spielberg’s The Goonies (1985) and continued to build her filmography with notable performances in Parenthood (1989), Beautiful Girls (1996), and Frozen II (2019) . In addition to her film career, Plimpton has made significant contributions to television and theater. She starred as Virginia Chance in the Fox sitcom Raising Hope (2010–2014), earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also received an Emmy Award for her guest role as attorney Patti Nyholm on The Good Wife (2012) . On Broadway, Plimpton has been nominated for three Tony Awards for her performances in The Coast of Utopia (2006–2007), Top Girls (2007–2008), and Pal Joey (2008–2009).
