Maryam Basir is an American actress and model, born in Detroit and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is the sister of filmmaker Qasim Basir. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she moved to New York City to pursue her acting and modeling career.Basir has built a diverse filmography, appearing in both independent films and major television series. Her early work included horror films like Fright Club (2006) and Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet (2009). She has frequently collaborated with her brother, Qasim Basir, appearing in his films Mooz-lum (2010), A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. (2018), and most recently, To Live and Die and Live (2023), where she played the role of Iman.On television, Basir has made guest appearances on popular shows such as 30 Rock, Are We There Yet?, Empire, Chicago P.D., Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Chi. In 2020, she starred in the BET romantic comedy film Holiday Heartbreak, for which she won Best Actress in an Independent Film at the HAPA Awards. The following year, Basir was cast in a leading role as Lacey McCullough in the Allblk legal drama series Lace, which aired its second season in 2023. Beyond her acting career, Maryam Basir is also an entrepreneur, having launched her own line of cosmetics, Maryam Beauty, in 2023.
