Mathew Baynton is a versatile British actor, writer, and musician known for his work in comedy and drama. Born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, he is the youngest of three brothers. Baynton attended Southend High School for Boys and later graduated with first-class honours from the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama. He further honed his craft by training in clowning at École Philippe Gaulier in Paris . Baynton's career gained significant momentum with his role in the BAFTA-winning children's series Horrible Histories, where he showcased his comedic talents by portraying various historical figures. He continued to collaborate with his Horrible Histories co-stars in the fantasy-comedy series Yonderland and the feature film Bill, both of which received positive acclaim . In 2013, he co-created and starred in the comedy-thriller series The Wrong Mans alongside James Corden, which was well-received by audiences and critics alike. In 2019, Baynton co-created and starred in the BBC sitcom Ghosts, portraying Thomas Thorne, a 19th-century Romantic poet among a group of eccentric spirits.
