Megumi Ogata

Megumi Ogata (緒方 恵美, Ogata Megumi; born June 6, 1965) is a highly revered and influential Japanese actress, voice actress (seiyū), and singer, famous for pioneering the voicing of complex, often troubled young male characters in anime. Debuting in 1992 with the iconic role of Kurama in Yu Yu Hakusho, her distinctive, low-toned, and emotionally expressive voice quickly made her an industry legend. Her most defining role is arguably that of the deeply conflicted protagonist Shinji Ikari in the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, a performance that required significant emotional depth and established her as the definitive voice for sensitive boy characters. Ogata's versatility also extends to playing strong, tomboyish women, most notably Haruka Tenoh / Sailor Uranus in the Sailor Moon series. Other major roles include Makoto Naegi and Nagito Komaeda in the Danganronpa series, Hanako and Tsukasa in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, and the protagonist Yuta Okkotsu in the feature film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Outside of voice acting, she has a robust music career under the stage name em:óu, and in 2019, she founded her own talent agency, Breathe Arts.
