Mena Massoud is an Egyptian-Canadian actor born on September 17, 1991, in Cairo, Egypt, to Coptic Orthodox Christian parents. His family immigrated to Canada when he was three years old, and he was raised in Markham, Ontario. Massoud initially pursued a degree in neuroscience at the University of Toronto before transferring to Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) to study theater, where he earned a BFA in acting.He began his acting career in 2011 with guest appearances in television series like Nikita and Combat Hospital. His early notable roles include Jared Malik in the Canadian drama series Open Heart (2015) and Tarek Kassar in the Amazon Prime series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018).Massoud achieved international recognition when he landed the coveted title role of Aladdin in Disney's live-action adaptation of Aladdin (2019), directed by Guy Ritchie. The film was a global box office success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. This role allowed him to showcase his singing and acting talents and significantly raised his profile.Following Aladdin, Massoud starred as Prince Thomas in the Netflix original film The Royal Treatment (2022), which became a global #1 film on the platform.
