Meriam Abbas
Meriam Abbas is a German-Iraqi actress born in 1970 in Baghdad, Iraq. She moved to Berlin at the age of 12 and later studied acting at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg from 1991 to 1994. Abbas has built a distinguished career across theater, film, television, and radio. In theater, she has performed at prestigious venues such as the Volkstheater Wien, where she played the title role in Antigone by Sophocles, and at the Burgtheater in Vienna. In film and television, she appeared in Underexposure (2005), the first Iraqi feature film after Saddam Hussein’s fall, as well as Baghdad in My Shadow (2019) and Our River Our Sky (2021). Meriam has also been active in radio dramas, lending her voice to productions like Güldens Schwester, which was honored by the German Academy of Performing Arts. She has received several awards, including the Kainz Medal from Vienna and the Karl-Skraup Prize for Best Acting Performance. Her recent film projects include No Beast So Fierce (2023), Klandestin (2023), and Noah (2023). Meriam Abbas speaks German, Arabic, English, and French and resides in Berlin.
