Merritt Wever
Merritt Wever (born August 11, 1980) is a highly acclaimed American actress known for her versatility across comedy and drama, particularly in television. Born in Manhattan and raised by her mother, a feminist and political activist, Wever is an alumna of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Sarah Lawrence College. She is a three-time Primetime Emmy Award winner for three distinct roles: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her breakthrough role as the quirky, empathetic nurse Zoey Barkow on Nurse Jackie (2009–2015); Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for the fierce, widowed rancher Mary Agnes McNue in the Western miniseries Godless (2017); and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Severance (2025). Her other notable roles include the compassionate detective Karen Duvall in the critically praised miniseries Unbelievable (2019), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination, and her recurring role as Dr. Denise Cloyd in The Walking Dead (2015–2016). In film, she has appeared in award-winning features such as Michael Clayton (2007), Into the Wild (2007), Birdman (2014), and Marriage Story (2019). Most recently, she is part of the ensemble cast of the 2025 biographical sports drama film Christy, where she plays Joyce Salters, the title character's mother.
