Miguel de Lira
Born Miguel Domingo García Martínez in 1964 in Lira, Carnota, the actor known professionally as Miguel de Lira is a cornerstone of Galician culture and one of Spain's most respected character actors. He originally began his journey into the performing arts while studying Law at the University of Santiago de Compostela, but his passion for the stage led him to become a founding member of the influential theatrical group Chévere in 1987. This collective, which later received the National Theater Award in 2014, allowed de Lira to develop a versatile skill set as an actor, director, and producer, eventually making his screen debut in the 1989 film Urxa. He became a household name across Spain in the late 1990s and early 2000s through his iconic role as Evaristo Currás in the legendary series "Mareas Vivas", and later gained national recognition for playing Félix Montejo in the long-running hit "Los hombres de Paco". Throughout his extensive career, Miguel de Lira has balanced mainstream success with a deep commitment to independent and Galician-language cinema. His filmography includes acclaimed titles such as O lapis do carpinteiro (2003), Os xirasoles cegos (2008), and the cult hit Crebinsky (2011), which he also co-wrote. He has been nominated for the Mestre Mateo Awards (Galicia's top film honors) multiple times, winning Best Actor for his roles in Somos xente honrada (2013), the tragic drama A esmorga (2014), and the meta-theatrical film Eroski Paraíso (2019). His ability to blend dark humor with profound humanity has made him a favorite collaborator for directors like Alfonso Zarauza and Jorge Coira, leading to recent standout performances in Cuñados (2021) and its 2024 sequel +Cuñados. In 2025, de Lira continues to be a dominant force in the industry with high-profile projects in both television and film. He joined the cast of the 2025 series "Punto Nemo" as Santos and appeared in the final season of the crime drama "Vivir sin permiso" as Celso. In the 2025 film "Me has robado el corazón", he reunites with fellow Galician star Luis Zahera, bringing his trademark comedic timing and regional authenticity to the romantic heist comedy.
