Milena Vukotić is an accomplished Italian actress and former ballerina who has had a distinguished career spanning over six decades in film, stage, and television. Born on April 23, 1935, in Rome, her father was a Montenegrin playwright and her mother was an Italian pianist and composer. Vukotić trained in both acting and classical dance in Italy and France before beginning her artistic career in 1961. She is celebrated as a brilliant character actress and is particularly known for her collaborations with major international directors. Her filmography includes works with auteur filmmakers like Federico Fellini (Juliet of the Spirits), Luis Buñuel (The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, The Phantom of Liberty, and That Obscure Object of Desire), and Andrei Tarkovsky (Nostalghia). However, in Italy, she is arguably most famous for her long-running comedic role as Pina Fantozzi in the popular Fantozzi film series, a role for which she won a Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actress. On television, she is well-known for playing Grandma Enrica in the hit Italian series Un medico in famiglia. Her versatile career was honored with a David di Donatello Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2024.
