Mirrah Foulkes

Mirrah Foulkes is an accomplished Australian director, screenwriter, and film and television actress. Born in Melbourne and raised on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, she is an alumnus of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Foulkes is a distinctive voice in Australian cinema and is the only female member of the highly respected filmmaking collective Blue-Tongue Films, which also includes David Michôd (her husband), Joel Edgerton, and Nash Edgerton.She first gained recognition as an actress, appearing in prominent Australian films like Animal Kingdom (2010), Sleeping Beauty (2011), and the anthology film The Turning (2013), for which she received an AACTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her television credits include the Australian series All Saints and the critically acclaimed mini-series Top of the Lake.Foulkes successfully transitioned to writing and directing, initially making a mark with award-winning short films, including Dumpy Goes to the Big Smoke (2012) and Florence Has Left the Building (2015), the latter of which won the AACTA Award for Best Short Film. Her feature film directorial and screenwriting debut was the dark comedic fantasy Judy & Punch (2019), starring Mia Wasikowska, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Most recently, she co-wrote the screenplay for the 2025 biographical sports drama film Christy, which chronicles the life of boxer Christy Martin.
