Mischa Barton

Mischa Anne Marsden Barton is a British and American actress known for her work in film, television, and on stage. Born on January 24, 1986, in Hammersmith, London, she has an English father, Paul Marsden Barton, who is a foreign exchange broker, and an Irish mother, Nuala Quinn-Barton, a producer. She and her family relocated to New York City when she was five, and she later became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Barton began her career at age eight on the stage, notably co-starring in Tony Kushner’s Off-Broadway premiere of Slavs! and taking a lead role in James Lapine’s Twelve Dreams. Her early film roles included the lead in the drama Lawn Dogs (1997) and small but memorable parts in major films like Notting Hill (1999) and The Sixth Sense (1999). Her breakthrough role came in 2003 when she starred as Marissa Cooper in the Fox television series The O.C., a role for which she received two Teen Choice Awards and was named Entertainment Weekly's "It Girl" of 2003. Since then, her credits have included films like the comedy remake St Trinian's (2007) and the Richard Attenborough-directed drama Closing the Ring (2007). In more recent years, she reprised the role of private detective Miranda Green in the 2025 film Murder at the Embassy, a sequel to Invitation to a Murder (2023). She has also appeared in television reboots, including the MTV series The Hills: New Beginnings (2019-2021) and the Australian soap opera Neighbours (2023).
