Mohammed "Mo" Amer is a highly regarded Palestinian-American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer, celebrated for his observational humor, satire, and storytelling that often draws from his unique life experiences. Born on July 24, 1981, in Kuwait, he fled with his family during the Gulf War at the age of nine and eventually settled in Houston, Texas, as a refugee.Amer rose to prominence as a member of the comedy trio "Allah Made Me Funny" before embarking on a successful solo career. He gained international recognition with his Netflix stand-up specials, "Mo Amer: The Vagabond" (2018) and "Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas" (2021). In 2022, he co-created and starred in the semi-autobiographical Netflix comedy-drama series "Mo," which loosely follows his life as a Palestinian refugee navigating the complexities of identity, immigration, and family in Houston. The series has received critical acclaim, including a Peabody Award. In addition to his stand-up and television work, Amer has also appeared in films, notably as Karim in the 2022 DC film "Black Adam" alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and in the Hulu series "Ramy." Much of his comedy thoughtfully addresses themes of displacement, cultural identity, and the Palestinian experience, often challenging stereotypes with humor and a deeply human touch.
