Murathan Muslu
Murathan Muslu (born November 7, 1981, in Vienna, Austria) is an Austrian actor and musician of Turkish descent, recognized for his compelling performances in both film and television. He began his artistic journey in the mid-1990s as a rapper under the stage name Aqil, co-founding the hip-hop group Sua Kaan at age 15. In 2010, the group released their debut album, Aus eigener Kraft, which charted and earned a nomination for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award. That same year, Muslu transitioned into acting, starring in the short film Papa, which marked the beginning of his collaboration with director Umut Dağ. Muslu's breakthrough in cinema came with his role in Dağ's Kuma (2012), a film that premiered at the Berlinale and garnered international acclaim. He further solidified his acting credentials with a standout performance in Risse im Beton (Cracks in Concrete, 2014), portraying a father striving to prevent his son from following a path of crime. This role earned him Best Actor awards at the Austrian Film Awards and the Diagonale Film Festival. In addition to his film work, Muslu has made significant contributions to television. He starred in the Netflix series Skylines (2019), portraying a rapper and music producer, and appeared in the Sky miniseries 8 Tage (8 Days, 2019), playing a German-Turkish police officer during an apocalyptic crisis. His television credits also include roles in CopStories, Schnell ermittelt (Fast Forward), and Murder Mindfully. Muslu's recent work includes portraying Sultan Murad II in the historical drama series Rise of the Raven (2024–). He continues to be a prominent figure in the Austrian entertainment industry, known for his versatility and depth in both dramatic and action-oriented roles.
