She was raised in Nigeria until the age of seven, then attended boarding school in London before her family moved to Toronto, Canada. She studied classical ballet and later, at the age of 16, decided to pursue acting. She attended the University of Toronto where she studied theater, psychology, and sociology. Her acting career took off after she landed a lead role in the play Pericles at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.Her career in television and film includes roles such as Layla Hourani in CBC's The Border, Kayla Hassan in the eighth season of 24, and Farah Nazan in Heroes Reborn. She has also appeared in films like Star Trek Into Darkness and the Saw franchise film, Spiral. Contractor is married to actor Carlo Rota and they have two children. She is an avid runner and yogi and supports philanthropic organizations that address homelessness and women with cancer.
