Nestor Carbonell

Néstor Carbonell is an American actor, director, and screenwriter, born on December 1, 1967, in New York City to Cuban parents of Spanish descent. Due to his father's executive role at PepsiCo, his childhood involved extensive international travel, including time spent in London, Mexico City, and Caracas, which led to him speaking Spanish as his first language. An alumnus of Harvard University with a degree in English, Carbonell is widely recognized for his prominent roles across television and film. He first gained fame on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan (1996–2000) as the charming photographer Luis Rivera. His career reached new heights with his enigmatic role as the ageless Richard Alpert on the hit ABC drama series Lost (2007–2010), and he further established his dramatic credentials as Sheriff Alex Romero on the A&E series Bates Motel (2013–2017). Since 2019, he has been a main cast member on the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show as weatherman Yanko Flores, and in 2024, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Shōgun. In film, he is known for playing Gotham City Mayor Anthony Garcia in Christopher Nolan's films The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Carbonell has also worked behind the camera, directing episodes of shows like Bates Motel and The Good Doctor, and is slated to appear in the upcoming film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026).
