Nicole Beharie, born on January 3, 1985, in West Palm Beach, Florida, is an American actress and singer. As the daughter of a diplomat, she spent her childhood living in various countries, including the United Kingdom, Jamaica, Nigeria, and Panama. After moving to South Carolina, she attended the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities before being accepted into the Juilliard School, where she received a Shakespeare scholarship to train in England. Beharie's acting career began with her critically acclaimed role in the 2008 film American Violet, for which she won an African-American Film Critics Award. She gained widespread recognition for her starring role as Abbie Mills in the Fox fantasy series Sleepy Hollow (2013–2016) and for her performance as Rachel Robinson in the biographical film 42 (2013). Her performance in the independent film Miss Juneteenth (2020) earned her an Independent Spirit Award. Beharie has also appeared in other notable films, including Shame (2011), and television series such as The Morning Show. In 2025, she appeared as Casey in the drama film Love, Brooklyn.
