Nina Dobrev is a Bulgarian-Canadian actress best known for her versatile roles in television and film. Born Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva on January 9, 1989, in Sofia, Bulgaria, she moved to Canada with her family at the age of two and was raised in Toronto, Ontario. Her early artistic inclinations led her to pursue ballet, jazz, rhythmic gymnastics, and acting classes.Dobrev first gained recognition for her role as Mia Jones, a teenage single mother, in the popular Canadian teen drama series "Degrassi: The Next Generation," which she starred in from 2006 to 2009. Her career truly took off when she landed the lead role of Elena Gilbert, and later the antagonist Katherine Pierce (and even an ancient doppelgänger, Amara), in The CW's hit supernatural drama series "The Vampire Diaries" (2009-2015, with a guest appearance in 2017). Her ability to portray distinct characters within the same series garnered her significant critical and fan acclaim, earning her numerous Teen Choice Awards.After "The Vampire Diaries," Dobrev transitioned to film, showcasing her range in various genres. Her notable film credits include the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (2012), the action-comedy "Let's Be Cops" (2014), the horror-comedy "The Final Girls" (2015), and the action blockbuster "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" (2017), where she played the tech-savvy character Becky Clearidge.
