Nina Hoss
Nina Hoss is a highly acclaimed German stage, film, and television actress, born on July 7, 1975, in Stuttgart, West Germany. Her father was a German trade unionist and co-founder of The Green Party, and her mother was an actress and director. Hoss began her acting career early, performing in radio plays at age seven and on stage at 14, and later graduated from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. She is renowned for her close and successful professional collaborations with German director Christian Petzold, which include the films Something to Remind Me (2001), Wolfsburg (2003), Yella (2007)—for which she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival—Barbara (2012), and Phoenix (2014). Beyond German cinema, Hoss has established a significant international profile with roles in the American television series Homeland (2014–2017) and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2022), as well as the critically acclaimed films A Most Wanted Man (2014) and Tár (2022), where she played the concertmaster and wife of the lead character. As a stage actress, she was an ensemble member at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and later joined the Schaubühne theatre. Hoss married British music producer Alex Silva in 2015. She also engages in humanitarian work, including campaigning against female genital mutilation and serving as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Brazilian state of Pará to fight against the destruction of the rainforest.
